CUPRA Ateca 2020 Review

No other person on the road, you tend to have a CUPRA Ateca. But should you, could you want one? Jonathan Crouch drives it.

Ten Second Review

CUPRA is the name you may know, but not as the brand itself. This is used to decorate only the quick seat badge. It has now been launched as a stand-alone Marque, and its first product is a medium-sized SUV, CUPRA Ateca. With a 300PS 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine, a decent Blow wrap.

Background

Over the years, we have been told that Spanish chair makers are a kind of ' Iberian Alfa Romeo. ' In CUPRA, though, it has an automotive brand with a much more credible claim to the description. You'll probably know the name, but like the sporty Trim mentions that he's back to 1996, because when it has been used on the entire hot series and Ibiza and Leon HATCHES. Now, SEAT wants CUPRA to mean more, make, in his words, ' a unique variety, sophisticated performance model designed to captivate car enthusiasts.

It is, of course, just a starting point; No fewer than seven CUPRA models will be available through the newly formed CUPRA Dealer network with 2021, including pre-ordered designs that will effectively replace the car, CUPRA Formentor. The idea, the company said, is ' to make a car not set in nostalgia, but it is rooted at this time. ' Presumably, it was intended to be excavated indirect competing brands such as Alfa Romeo and MINI, both of which produce CUPRA Ateca products set to target: namely, fast directly, charismatic SUV, a car that offers a lot of what you get, say, a Porsche tiger for much less money. It sounds an exciting niche market. Can this car fill it? Let's find out.

Driving Experience

In terms of engineering behind this car, there is nothing we have never seen before in the Volkswagen group model, but the CUPRA engineers have credits by carrying all the various materials together in a form never before seen in One SUV conglomerate Wolfsburg. The element in question includes a 300PS 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine borrowed from the VW Golf R, a seven-speed DSG gearbox, a Haldex four-wheel-drive system and a rigid, robust MQB modular architecture. The dynamic control of the adaptive Reducer chassis also complies with the standard, and there are six driving settings, including ' comfort, '' Sport ' or Max-Attack ' Cupra ' driving modes.

This car sits 10mm closer to the road than the regular Ateca. It uses retuned Springs and silencer along with large 19-inch wheels, so the quality of the trip will undoubtedly be more toned than the standard ATECA model, but of course, the control of the body and Turn-in Angle the L can be a sign of rental orders as well. It meets quickly, resting for 62mph, which occupies the 5.2 s to 153mph ride from the flat exit.

Design and build

We love performance styling; Rotated slightly above the usual Ateca, with a large 19-inch rim filling extended arch. But not too ' Max Power. ' The same is true inside, where the shopper's CUPRA Ateca enjoys the leather sports chair, Alcantara at the door, textured prints and leather on the steering wheel. This is not enough to disguise many of the cheaper plastic moulds that betrayed the origins of this car, although the designers have done their best, generously using high black gloss and chrome ornaments. There's much technical sophistication, too, with a smart centre-dash display and fully digital instrument clusters.

Ateca is one of the smallest medium-size SUVs that you can buy, so you don't have to expect too much in terms of back seat space. Some adults can be accommodated quite comfortably, although there are no sliding seats or back seat-Reclining features to make the occupants a little more comfortable. In the back, as this is a four-wheel-drive Ateca, it has a slightly shallow boot of some sort of stablemates, but one that is still sensible in size at 485 litres. The Boot is accessed by a standard powered tailgate (one of them you can activate by waving your feet under the bumper) and will easily swallow some significant cases and a pushchair.

Markets and Models

The Ateca CUPRA price starts from just under £38,000-or about double the lowest cost, the most powerful with the standard ATECA model. Yes. And you can spend more. Go for optional ' Comfort & Sound ' Pack,' and you will pay a small fraction below £40,000. There's even a Plusher ' limited Edition ' variant with a ' copper ' carbon fibre trimming element for just over £42,000, which you can have with an Akrapovic exercise for Fortier exhaust for £3,000 More if you're very determined to increase CUPRA's Bank balance brand.

All versions, of course, get a high level of expected Infotainment and connectivity; 8-Inch Touchscreen Center-Dash offers the latest generation SEAT ' full link ' package, which includes ' Apple CarPlay ' and ' AndroidAuto ' smartphone-mirroring. The system will also read out new text, Twitter and Facebook messages and let you dictate answers. It even gets the ability to let you set your screen gestures for shortcuts to your most popular commands.

Plus, there are a variety of remote intelligent features accessed via DriveApp SEAT, which can be downloaded. Other standard kits include Keyless entry and start, a wireless charger, GSM signal booster for your ' phone, 360-degree camera over the system display, navigation and automatic ' Park assist ' to direct you into space: All this comes as standard. Also, there is a digital cluster instrument-brand calling it the ' digital cockpit ' – which allows the driver to see all relevant information, ranging from classical analogue plates such as speedometer and rev counter to full-colour maps and navigation.

Cost of ownership

Brand CUPRA cites 32.5 MPG combination of WLTP economic figures and 168g/km NEDC-Rated CO2 reading, which makes sense for high-performance SUV. A slight residual value is unknown. If the CUPRA brand takes off, they can reinforce well, but for now, the market will tend to see this like Ateca is very expensive. So buyers will need a little bold.

What's more? Well, CUPRA products get a regular seat three years/60,000 miles warranty. It's not remarkable when rivals like Toyota and Hyundai offer five-year cover as standard and KIA offers up to seven years. However, CUPRA agreements can be extended, so you may be able to negotiate. And it includes two years of European-wide roadside assistance.

Summary

In theory, CUPRA Ateca makes sense. Combining machines, Gearbox and longer drivetrain longer than the popular Hot hatchback (in this case VW Golf R) with trendy, timely and practical body styles of a compact medium SUV. In practice, though, you wonder if all of this has been put together in a unique way to justify the premium prices asking here.

The Spanish brand says that no other Marque is quite like it on the market today, which is right. But there are many reasonably similar products, all of which are better-established Nameplate. For all that, though, these Iberia competitors represent something a little different in its segments, and it refreshes. Cupra thinks there is a Latin spirit in everyone. And if you like that thought and you are willing to give something new try, then this Ateca might be an exciting option.
