New Cupra Leon revealed with hybrid power and up to 306bhp

Cupra, the performance of the brand seats, has gotten his hands on Leon Hatch and the new Cupra Leon is the result

Cupra, the branch performance of the SEAT brand, has released a hot take on Leon. Available in both hatchback and estate form, it will produce as much as 306bhp in its most potent way, but will also be offered with a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Designed, engineered and constructed at the new facility Cupra built atop Martorell near Barcelona, Cupra Leon will face rivals like the Hyundai i30N and Ford Focus ST.

It will also need to ward off competition from within the Volkswagen group itself: both Skoda Octavia vRS and VW Golf GTI himself will make his debut soon.

From the outside, the sport of Leon Cupra is more threatening to see than the relative seats – and not just because two different matte paints are finished.

The Front Bumper has a large open-air dam, coupled with a new copper-coloured logo on the nose. Depending on the model, there is a choice of 18-or 19-inch alloy wheels finished silver, black or copper and a black mix.

Whether choosing a five-door hatchback or a full-body style, the back is governed by the typical Full-width Leon Light Bar, while under the new Bumper sits featuring a pair of copper-trimmed tailpipes for each side of the inner rear diffuser.

The change, according to Cupra, also enhances aerodynamic performance; The latest Leon is eight per cent more aerodynamic efficient than the previous version.

Interior and Technology

Inside, the copper theme continues, with highlights on the stitching of the seats (there are two types of sport seats to choose from), surround air ventilation, and steering wheel.

The wheel itself is similar in design to the SEAT Leon but gains two new switches: one starter button, and another to adjust between one of four drive modes: Comfort, Sport, Cupra and individual.

The 12.3-inch digital instrument Panel got a new ' Sport ' Display Menu, which puts a beautiful Rev counter into the centre of the driver's view while demonstrating strength, torque G-Force and Turbo Boost readouts.

Engine and performance

Each machine selection in the Cupra Leon range features multiple forced induction levels, while one also gets hybrid technology.

The Cupra Leon PHEV is matched with a 1.4-litre gasoline engine with turbochargers and comes with an electric motor and a 13kWh battery. It's enough to return 242bhp but also 37-mile electric-only range and CO2 emissions below 50g/km.

The traditional combustion Unit forms the rest of the range. The Volkswagen Group tried-and-tested 2.0-liter turbo was offered with 242bhp and 370Nm, or 296bhp and 400Nm.

All three options are standard with front-wheel drive, limited electronic differential slip, and automatic Double-Clutch gearbox.

However, a more potent version with four-wheel drive is reserved for the Estate. Here, the 2.0-litre unit was created 306bhp, which allows the hottest Leon to Sprint from 0-62mph at 4.8 seconds and at high speed of 155mph.

To keep the power in check, Cupra had worn the Leon chassis for a more sporting setup relative to the SEAT counterpart. The ridge altitude is 25mm lower in front and 20mm backwards, while adaptive attenuation system can adjust response rate based on the driving mode.

The director is based on an electric steering power system, which claims the CUPRA  "the most progressive yet.    "Disc front brake by Brembo, meanwhile, measures 370mm, and they are gripped by a copper-coloured calliper.

The complete list of equipment available at Cupra Leon includes full LED lighting (including Ambient lights inside), Keyless entry, and 10-inch Infotainment system with 3D navigation, gesture control and both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The same safety technology is complete. The predictive cruise control system is activated using a mixture of GPS data and info from the front camera to proactively adjust by changing the speed limit and the road layout. Blindspot detection, traffic congestion assistance, and semi-autonomous line storage systems are also available.
