RS6 Avant Talent lies in how it combines blistering speed, extraordinary improvements, and the comfort of silk, a mass of practicality, and a lot of technology and kits in one highly desirable package on many fronts.
This is not the sharpest or most dynamic Super estate, but as one car to cover a lot of bases, which this machine should be, it's hard to see the fastest past of the Audi load-lugger.
When it comes to Super saloons and plantations, the arms race between German producers has moved from pursuing the ridiculous forces of output and more towards technology – and there is no better example of this than the new Audi RS 6 Avant. We have been encouraged for the first time in the UK to see how technology is struggling with our path.
Of course, there is still more power with this new fourth-generation car, the 592bhp, but this is a smaller leap than its predecessor than the other generation step in the Avant RS 6.
There is also an 800Nm torque of 4.0 liters twin-turbo V8, and the machine is one of the areas where many developments are centered on. It now has a 48-volt lightweight hybrid technology to help increase efficiency, even if the MPG 22.6 claims are quite thirsty. However, the stop-Start system can be activated up to 13mph, while the car can also be a beach-off engine between 34-99mph. This 48-volt set-up also carries an active roll control.
While there is no doubt that this helps usability, it is a machine that still dominates the package. It's very flexible. With a very high peak torque rate available from just 2, 050rpm, RS 6 provides acceleration in Lope quickly, without any effort. There is a minimum of Turbo lag, so good response too. The machine will Rev out, with the maximum power generated at 6, 000rpm, but there is so much low down that feels less excited at high revs. The note machine also sounded more synthesized – the best sound RS 6 muttering in Mid-range with an optional £1,450 sport exhaust installed for our test cars.
Excellent traction thanks to Quattro four-wheel drive, which helped cut Sprint 0-62mph for just 3.6 seconds, while all RS 6s features a differential sport in the US rear wheel for torque vectors to help improve agility. There is also rear-wheel steering to improve how fast RS 6 changes, and it is easy to get to grips with.
The steering wheel is lightweight in Comfort mode but artificially heavy, squidgy, and resistive in Dynamic, so we prefer the middle way you can choose when setting your pre-set with a new RS driving mode feature. Regardless of your choice, there is not much to feel, although there are many grips.
You also get adaptive air suspension as standard, but on an optional 22-inch Alloy, the comfort of the drive is blended. It seeks with Rolling paths and gentle bumps. Still, more difficult inputs highlight inconsistencies in setup, and RS6 sometimes crashes, sometimes wallows, sometimes controlling movements well and sometimes being lumbered Along the way.
We also tried £1,300 RS plus Spring steel set-up with an adaptive silencer, which is much better. The car feels better tied with a tauter, controlling the body more reactive, but the reducer also better absorb the inputs, increasing the convenience of the drive.
In comfort, Audi feels surprisingly chewy, given how big the wheels are. Moving with a relaxed, fluid, and smooth movement to the damping, do not iron out the bumps, but trackbacks over most of them are relatively serenely.
These are some of where usability comes from. Other elements added to it include a 565-liter boot with a powered tailgate, while the back seat is extensive. The standard kit level is also brilliant, as you would expect, given the price of £92,750 Tag.
Matrix LED lights with laser lamps, leather seats are heated and vented, four climate control zones, and Super-Sharp Audi three-screen MMI Info set-up with a virtual cockpit (including the particular RS skin) are all included. There are also rear cameras, parking sensors, CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, Cruise Control, AEB, and departure warning lines.
The quality of the cabin is excellent, and all kits are well integrated, but if there is one criticism, it is that it is similar to the A6-RS 6 standard not to feel as unique as some rivals in.
