Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (2016-2018) Used car reviews

Back in 2016, the hybrid power offered a fresh dimension to ownership of the Toyota RAV4 Soft Road medium-sized SUV. Through this car, brands that provide buyers in this segment are the most affordable routes to conserve gasoline-electric with more significant improvements and net emissions tax benefits. Plus this enhanced fourth generation design offers sharp styling, decent safety provision and plenty of media connectivity. It's worth seeing as buying used.

History

There is enough appetite for the hybrid power between shoppers shopping in the medium-sized SUV segment. Back in 2016 then, it made sense than to the Toyota, a brand that found this form of propulsion, to weigh with its offer, this car, the RAV4 Hybrid.

In many ways, it's confusing that it is necessary until autumn 2015 for this model to be made available for the model 2016 years. Before that time, Toyota had, after all, been developing gasoline/electrician because it launched the first version of the RAV4 back in 1994. In the early years of the 21st century, the hybrid machine became the signature item for the brand.

Although Toyota wanted to be sure to understand the market properly before soaking in, is it possible to use a conventional type of nickel-metal-hydride gasoline-the familiar electrical technology of the Yaris, Auris and Prius ranges-and indeed of the Lexus Brothers brand is the same size model NX SUV? Or, should it drive the market with this type of lithium-ion plug-in Hybrid Engine squeezed in this segment by Mitsubishi with its Outlander rival model?

In the event, Toyota lives with proven non-plug-in hybrid power, trying to keep this car accessible and affordable in the target market. A lot of sophistication is still promised though for a hybrid RAV4 buyer. Indeed, with the combined power output of the 195HP system, this model represents the most potent Toyota Hybrid ever. It also benefited from a round of improvements that substantially improved the RAV4-like-something ownership proposition like a smarter looking, redesigned interior, extra security and more up-to-date Infotainment. The car was sold until only the fifth-generation hybrid RAV4 was launched in early 2019.

What you get

A RAV4 should not be significant and thick. The buyer always sees one and thinks ' yeah I can drive it ', ' Yes, I can park ' and ' yes, that would look pretty good on the way in. '. All of these observations, of course, apply to this model restyled back to MK4, but with this design, there is a sense of individuality; arguably, the RAV4 has been not since the Nineties.

The most significant change with the Post-2015 version takes place in front, where the sleek top Grille is more intelligent flanked by a redesigned front light that features LED technology in the plusher version. Inside, the binnacle instrument, the central console and the Gear surround lever are all revised with higher quality materials, all to try to drive this car to the market. The driver-centric section is framed by a silver circle that rises from the transmission tunnel and cuts through the dashboard beams to the instrumentation frame delivered by two separate circular dials. One left side will be a hybrid system indicator that replaces the regular Rev counter. Between these measuring instruments, Toyota added in 4.2 inches multi-information display for this upgraded model; it shows safety information, travel computer data, compass and audio settings.

Whatever this screen can not tell you may be covered by a 7-inch Infotainment-Dash Center redesigned fascia monitor to accommodate better. And behind? Well if your experience of the automotive RAV4 is limited to the older MK1, MK2 or MK3 versions of this car, make sure you take a seat here to experience the difference as they are significant. The redesign that created the original version of this MK4 model at 2012 added an extra 100mm to the wheelbase of this car, and pretty much everything used to re-profit the passenger seats that get a lot of the knee space and a leading standard classroom. Inland, you get a 501-litre boot room with hybrid variants.

What to look for

RAV4 has built an excellent reputation for reliability, and this enhanced fourth-generation car is built on it. Very little out of our exclusive survey except for alloy wheels corrosion and sunroof water leaks. Otherwise, not much goes wrong on-the-road. Perform routine inspections for signs of heavy off-Road use. Since cars are never sold as ' off-roaders ', you're unlikely to find that this is a problem. If the vehicle seems to have been widely used in mud, it is best to walk away because it is not built to take some treatment.

A set of front pads tends to retail at £19 to £51 brackets; For the back bearing, it's about £45 for a game. The retail front brake discs are about £70. The rear brake discs are filled at £60-£ 95. Wiper Blades can cost in £6 to £13 brackets.

On the way

There's nothing like hybrid power, especially in terms of the general style of Rolls Royce repairs and the scary silence you get at Start-up. In this RAV4, we are talking about the set-up 195hp which is available with either 2WD or, as in this example, AWD. In either case, the 2.5-litre gasoline engine is decimated with 141bhp electric motor in the front, but if you go for the ' E-Four ' version, then two 68bhp motors are also added to the additional power of the rear axle as well.

This is a hybrid variant that Toyota expects at least half of all future RAV4 buyers to vote for – even though the brand chooses not to mate this machine with more advanced plug-in technologies that some rivals use. This Japanese brand refuses to copy the approach here, doubtful that many potential buyers want to pay a significant premium that accompanies plug-in advances. It is undoubtedly a more affordable way to buy into the effective re-use of electric gasoline propulsion. In this 4WD model, you see 55.4 MPG on the combined cycle and 118g/km CO2.

Overall

This post-2016-RAV4 series honours matures and becomes more sensitive. And what could be more reasonable than a hybrid machine installation under the hood? This car is a way to more affordable buy into mid-sized automotive SUV from the crossover from the period 2016-2018, the Gasoline/Electric formula offers additional repairs, cheaper fuel and a lower taxation rate.

Maybe then this, as Toyota assured us, ' better way ' than having a type model-you decided. One will definitely: for many people, this with a buying proposition will make a family-friendly, real-world absurd.
