This is the new KIA Sorento, the flagship Korean company SUV that will be launched with diesel and hybrid power, with the PHEV because before the end of the year
The new model has been revealed ahead of its public debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month. The initial opening is a Korean spec car, although differences from the European version will become marginal.
The Sorento took styling cues from a more substantial, only US Telluride SUV, but the design has been softened for the European market. There is a friendly nose Grill – flanked by a new LED light, connected to a sharp shoulder line that runs around the whole car. The rear light, vertically oriented Split, allows for full and square boot openings.
Inside, the new Sorento leaped German rivals when it came to quality, fit and finished. The difference from the Korean cars shown here will only be color and trim, not the overall layout.
Fully digital 12.3-inch display driver will be standard in range, decimated to 10.25-inch touch screen center with second-generation KIA UVO APP interface.
British specifications will be confirmed later, but it is expected that all Sorentos will display autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with the detection of cyclists, leather seats, and dual-zone climate control. Top-spec cars will get heated and ventilated seats, wireless phone charging and smart cruise control.
For KIA to meet future sub-95g/km emission targets, however, it is estimated that ' All-New ' diesel is only available at one intermediate level Trim level. Although the list of kits is generous, this car will be the point of entry into the Sorento possession, underestimating the equivalent of a hybrid with several thousand pounds.
The hybrid powertrain will consist of a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and a 59bhp motor for a total system output of about 230bhp. Hybrid plug-ins will use a larger 89bhp motor with about 265bhp. Expect about 35-40 miles of pure electric range in a driving mix. All English models will use an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive.
The new Sorento is about 10mm longer, broader, and higher than the car it replaces, but the main difference is its wheelbase, which has been stretched by 35mm to improve the interior packaging.
As before, the Sorento will be available with seven seats. And the plug-in hybrid will also get a choice of seven seats, with Isofix points on each of the five rear seats. Fold the third line flat and Sorento offer
Up to 910 liters of boot space.
The exact specifications will unfold closer to the on-Sale date in the summer but expect a modest five to 10 percent increase in price. That means the basic diesel version should cost around £37,500.
