New 2020 Skoda Octavia vRS iV plugs in with 242bhp

The latest Volkswagen Golf GTI is not the exclusive new hot hatchback of the Volkswagen group. Skoda has published the new fourth-generation Octavia vRS, which features plug-in Hybrid powertrain to this first event.

Available as a hatchback and Estate, the new car is called vRS iV and is powered by a four-cylinder 1.4-litre engine and a 113bhp electric motor. This is the same powertrain with the new GTE Golf, with 242bhp and 400Nm, while CO2 emissions can be as low as 30g/km under the rules of WLTP.

As well as that of CO2 figures, Skoda claimed that this hot Octavia was capable of 0-62mph at 7.3 seconds and a top speed of 139mph. And it's all while being able to cover 37 miles on electric power only – just as long as you can save a fully 13kWh car battery pack on it. Power is shipped to the front axle only, through a six-speed DSG gearbox that can be controlled using paddle-shifters found behind the wheel.

Skoda also confirmed that the sports suspension on the new vRS was set 15mm lower than the standard car and that the steering had a unique profile.

This is not the only vRS variant of the new Octavia planned, either; Both gasoline and diesel versions are also scheduled, but this will be revealed at a later date. This means that the range that Octavia vRS will mirror that of the ' GT ' Golf line-up, the diesel version will likely be the 197bhp 2.0-liter TDI, and the pure-petrol Octavia vRS is set to use the 2.0-litre TSI Golf unit GTI, with up to 242bhp possible.

Elsewhere, the latest in Octavia vRS gets a sporty visual transformation. It has body kits with new, aggressive cutting, and air vents with black glass surround, new front bumper, rear diffuser and spoiler roof, while wheels up to 19 inches can be determined. The Gloss-Black 18in wheels come as standard, along with LED-Matrix full-light and LED-Tail light.

In a cab, the Octavia vRS can optionally be equipped with a sports venue that was trimmed Alcantara, while the dashboard and headlining also lined up in the same material, and the two 10-inch screen-one behind the steering wheel and touchscreen centre-take care of both the instrumentation and the Infotainment. The steering wheel is a three-spoke piece, compared to two-spoke wheels on standard Octavia, and aluminium pedals complement the sport Makeover.

New Octavia VRS will be launched in the UK this fall. Prices for plug-in version iV tend to start at £32.000 and will be positioned as the most expensive version of the new Trio Octavia vRS. However, the English specification and the standard equipment level are not yet completed.
